With the sudden spread of COVID-19, I’m sure a lot of us have been deep cleaning most things in our lives. Be it your hands, house, car, or pantry – we can all agree that your annual deep clean has been moved to the top of your to-do list. Just like your house may need a little reviving, renewing and restoring, so might your jewelry box.

First things first – if you don’t already own a jewelry storage system or proper jewelry box, it’s time to get organized. You’ll save time when it comes to searching for the perfect pair of earrings and may even avoid having to separate a batch of tangled necklaces that have woven themselves into a massive knot. When on the lookout for the perfect jewelry box, make sure they include separate compartments, in multiple sizes, to hold necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets.

Next, you’ll want to set aside a decent chunk of time and an ample amount of space to go through your entire collection. While it may seem daunting at first, pull out every single piece of jewelry you own. Be sure to check all fasteners, clips and clasps. If any pieces need repair, place it gently to the side and later schedule a time to take it in to your most trusted jeweler. If you’re having a hard time recalling the last time your engagement ring or other prong-jewelry was cleaned, inspected or maintained by a professional – now is the time to get it done.

Once you’ve separated your “repairs” from your “good-to-go’s”, figure out if there are any pieces that you’ve never worn and will probably never wear. Take into consideration it’s monetary value, it’s purpose/function, it’s sentimental value and make a decision on whether to keep it or not.

When you’ve made the difficult decisions of what to keep and discard, observe what pieces you have left. Is there something you don’t have in your collection that you think you’d like? If the answer is yes – you’re ready for the fun part! Visit your favorite local jewelry store *wink wink* and get to filling up that jewelry box again. We hope these steps will be useful to you the next time you give your jewelry box a deep clean. We hope that during this time of fear and panic, you are able to find peace, joy and health with the ones that matter most. We are here for you, jewelry or not!
